Auditions for Dreamwell’s production of The Nether by Jennifer Haley, directed by Rachael Lindhart, will be held July 8th, 6:00-8:00 and July 9th, 2:00-4:30. Auditions will take place at the Iowa City Public Library. A copy of the script will be on reserve at the library. If you are unable to make one of these auditions times, or have questions, contact director Rachael Lindhart at LINDHRACH@aol.com.
The auditions will consist of readings from the script. Those auditioning will be given scenes with time to study before reading. Performance dates are September 16, 17 and 23, 24. Rehearsals will begin August 1 with a couple of days of readings and discussions in the two weeks before that date.
THE NETHER, a new play by Jennifer Haley, is set in the near future and takes place in a real interrogation room and a Victorian-looking virtual reality setting. 3 men and 2 women will be needed for the following roles:
Morris, a young (20s – 30s) female detective and an expert interrogator; she is highly intelligent with a strong moral viewpoint.
Iris – a young girl, described as “shining” in the script; she is at once sentimental and resilliant–as young people often are. It is hard for her to face reality at times.
Sims/Papa – A successful business man (in his 40s or 50s), he believes in the righteousness of capitalism and that what he is doing in business is fine and just. A firm believer in pragmatism and the separation of business and private life.
Doyle – A middle-aged science teacher (50s or 60s), who has not found what he seeks in life; he is in a delayed, perhaps, middle-aged crisis, and is ready for drastic change.
Woodnut – a young man, mid 20s, and perhaps amorphous in appearance; he is rather afraid of the world in which he finds himself falling in love for the first time; he is emotionally needy.
