Dreamwell is looking for actors to perform in the winning one-act plays from this year’s Writer’s Skirmish contest. Auditions will be Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30 at 6pm at the Iowa City Community Public Library.
The first place winner is “World’s Teeniest” by Amy White, with runner-ups “AfterWerx” by Carrie and Richard New, and “Some Assembly Required” by James Grob. All three will have full productions. Scripts will be on reserve at the ICPL. Or you can go here to view the scripts online.
Performance dates are July 13, 14, 20, and 21. All three plays are performed each night. Coordinated by Matthew Brewbaker.
In World’s Teeniest, a woman comes home to find a kid in her house who just won’t leave. As they spar with words, it becomes clear there is more happening here than meets the eye. Amy White is a well known local writer whose work have been performed at Mount Vernon Lisbon Community Theatre and Riverside Theatre. Her work was also featured in Dreamwell’s production of Soldier’s Daughter last year.
AfterWerx is the journey of two living people looking for answers in the afterlife to the destiny-altering moments of their lives.
Some Assembly Required is a very funny play about Freedom.
