LINK: UpdatesLINK: JournalLINK: StoriesLINK: FAQsLINK: SupportLINK: LinksLINK: Contact So, I got fitted for a hearing aid yesterday. I went to this place: http://www.heargreat.com. The woman I met with, Kelly, was very helpful. We talked in depth about my loss and what environments it's important for me to hear in. She then took a mold of my ear to create the aid, which will be ready in about 2 weeks. I'm going with the Signia behind the ear model by Siemens (http://www.hearing-siemens.com).

This will be a digital hearing aid that gets programmed, similarly to a cochlear implant, to my specific hearing loss. It has 2 microphones on it for different environments so sound can come in from the front of my head or the side. It also has a hole in it so it won't block the natural hearing that I have left. Add-ons include another microphone for my right ear (which is wired into my left) and an FM system for auditorium/theatre type settings. Barry and I will be going in for several programming sessions where they will simulate various noisy environments and I will determine my threshold and where I am comfortable hearing Barry's voice. This will go on for several weeks until we find a program (or two or three) that I like. And, in the event that I lose more hearing, I can go back and get reprogrammed for the new level of loss. Good news is that programming is free for life at this place.

So, in 2 weeks we'll see how it is!
