Dreamwell will hold auditions for their spring production of Poona the Fuckdog and Other Plays For Children by Jeff Goode, directed by Josh Sazon, at the Iowa City Public Library on Feb. 11 from 1-4 and on Feb. 12 from 6-8:30. Performances will be April 27, 28 & May 4 & 5. This collection of “Fairy Tales for Grown-Ups” contains satirical social commentary dealing with advertising, politics, celebrity, religion, word usage, rampant capitalism, mass media, among a number of other subjects. It also features appearances by a singing Fairy God-Phallus, a pair of invading aliens, a sassy shrub and God (who will answer any question for five bucks). It is a theatrical work not for the easily offended, and absolutely NOT fit for children’s consumption. It is also not without humor. Auditioners of most ages, sizes and appearances would be considered. Auditioneers will be asked to do a cold read from the script. A copy of the script is on reserve at the Iowa City Public Library. Dreamwell Theatre is holding auditions for “Steve Got Raped” written by Sam Gooley, directed by Adeara Jean Maurice, Sun, Dec 10 1-4pm and Mon, Dec 11 6-9pm at the Iowa City Public Library, Meeting Room D. Four actors (2M, 2F) that look like they are in the late 20s / early 30s. No restrictions on ethnicity. You may prepare a monologue or read from a side (so no monologue needed). Production dates are Mar. 23, 24, 30, & 31 Newly engaged couple, Steve and Katie, think they have life figured out. They’re gliding through adulthood without any problems or complications. Until, Steve finds the smiley-face pregnancy test in their bathroom trashcan right before his bachelor party. After some discussion and a little foreplay, Katie convinces Steve to go to his party and encourages him to have fun. Everything goes according to plan until Steve wakes up the next day missing his pants and questioning his fidelity. Was Steve’s encounter with a surprise guest consensual or was it rape? What do you do when you’re stuck in the grey area of consent, monogamy, and societal expectations? Why do we treat each case of sexual violence the same when every case is so different?
