Dick Pix closes this weekend Nov. 3, 4, with Author Talk-Backs

Dick Pix continues Nov. 3, 4 at 7:30pm at Public Space One (120 North Dubuque St., in the basement of the Wesley Center). In addition to regular street parking, two parking ramps are close by: Parking Pappajohn Business Building at 21 E. Market St. and Tower Place Ramp, 355 Iowa Ave. Following the performances, audiences are invited to stay to discuss the play with the author, director, and cast. Tickets are $13, $10 for students and seniors. Dick Pix depicts graphic images including scenes of sexual violence and suicide. No one under 18 will be admitted without a parent or guardian. Dick Pix is a satirical comedy about artistic integrity, gender identity, sexual harassment, and narcissism in the age of social media. Calvin Lively is a photographer and self-proclaimed provocateur in desperate need of an idea for his next installation. Grace, his girlfriend and publicist, and Fin, his best friend and art dealer, are turning up the heat as the deadline approaches. Meanwhile, two eponymous Art Handlers complicate the situation when they become the target of Grace’s unwanted attention. As the title suggests, Calvin’s installation involves large-scale photographic prints of his own penis selfies (tastefully framed). Come audition for “Civil” written by Rob Matsushita & directed by Adrienne Sullivan! Auditions will be held at Iowa City Public Library on Sunday Oct. 15 from 1-4pm, and Monday, Oct. 16 from 7-9pm. On the Verge Opens Sept. 22

Dreamwell Theatre presents “On the Verge or The Geography of Yearning” written by Eric Overmyer and directed by Amanda L. Mayfield. Performances are September 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 7:30pm at Public Space One (120 North Dubuque St., in the basement of the Wesley Center). There will be a talk-back after the Sept. 23rd performance where the public is invited to stay and discuss the play with the director and cast. On the Verge begins in 1888 as we follow Mary, Fanny, and Alex, three women who are each intrepid world explorers in their own right. They band together to conquer Terra Incognita, the last and most mysterious of unexplored territories and take some most unexpected turns. Join them on an exciting journey through space and time as each traveler discovers her own unique destiny in the beautiful, loud, and brightly lit future.
