Performances will be April 24th,25th and May 1st ,2nd.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters.
It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold.
ABOUT THE CASTING:
Director Matt Brewbaker is seeking an ensemble to portray these four badass women. All roles are open.
OLYMPE De Gouges –
38; A badass activist playwright and feminist. Theatre nerd, excitable, passionate, privileged. An intellectual, a coward, a showman. Widowed and never married again to ensure her personal freedom.
CHARLOTTE Corday –
25; A badass country girl and assassin. Serious, resolute, hardened by righteousness, never been kissed. Has a pocket watch she keeps checking. A fighter, a firecracker, a child (in the eyes of some). Also plays FRATERNITE in a mask.
MARIE Antoinette –
30s; Questionably badass but none-the-less fascinating former queen of France. Bubbly, graceful, opinionated, decadent. Totally unaware, unintentionally rude, and oddly prescient. Never had a real friend. A tyrant, a doll, a figment. Also plays FRATERNITE in a mask.
MARIANNE Angelle
30s; A badass black woman in Paris. Fighting for more than the other three could understand. Devoted to her husband and fellow shadow revolutionary, Vincent. Fierce, knowing, aloof, vigilant. A free woman, a spy, a lighthouse. The clearest eyes among the lot.
